do i hav a bad motherboard if i just finished building and when i try to install xp it says it had to stop because the hd may have a virus or something like that

prob best bet is to exchange the hd....not a good sign if a part is giving u probs b4 its even working.

have you reformatted teh HD using a bootable tool like fdisk?
