Cooling question...

Hey guys, Currently my fan in my computer is extremely loud. The comp is also kept in a closed area in my desk and it gets pretty damn hot in there. Now I've just purchased my second monitor so I know it's going to get even hotter. Any suggestions for a well working yet quite cooling system? Would water cooling be too much at this point?

The only mods I have done are a new video card, Nvidia e-Geforce 6600 GT, a new sound card, and more ram (total of 1 gig). I plan to add more in the future.

Is this a commercial barnd pc, or did you build it. You could add water cooling if you wanted, its a bit more expensive than using fans and such. You PC (the case) should not be an enclosed area, it cant breath there, its need to have a place where it can get cool air.

This is a Hewlett Packard. Ive just upgraded a few things. Is there just a quieter fan that would cool better? Should I upgrade the whole case to one with more fans? I'm not against doing that.

Its not all that expensive for its quality(Thermaltake) and performance. Its an easy install, and can be kept on the side of your desk, so your PC could stay in the cabinet its in now...

Hmm... This may be listed somewhere, and please just provide a link if it is, but how does the liquid cooling work? I assume the main risk is a line break and ruining the components?

the main problem with liquit\d cooling would be that you need to refresh it every 3 months. ( i heard it from others on this forum.

Water cooling is simply running water through a radiator with a fan directed onto the fins to remove heat, the water then runs into the computer and thru a water block attached to your CPU to remove heat from the CPU and back to the radiator. Usually only needed for overclocking.

Refreshing the water system is no biggie, but there is always that pesky leaking thing to worry about. There a lot of aftermarket HSF coolers out there that are air driven. Check your cpu type and check in a newegg or others for HSF.

If you have a closed cabinet where your computer resides, you need to make some holes so that outside air can get into the cabinet. One of my systems is in a cabinet and I removed the door and replaced it with a wire mesh screen and frame, lots of air now. You could also cut an opening in the back and mount a 120mm fan in there.

That dosent solve the problem of the noise this fan is making.

When I say its in a closed cabinet, its one of the desks with a large whole precut into the back. Most of the time I usually leave the door open, I only close it if I want it to look nice for company or something.

Is it possible to change my case to one with more fans? I have looked at some of the cases and alot of them interest me. Would changing the case be beneficial?

To decrease noise you should go with a case that has 2 120mm fans and a non fan chipset cooler. You can also just change your existing fan to newer, quiter ones. You can install your mobo in a new case but may have problems with the back plate not fitting and you may have to run without a back plate (hey, more ventilation, right?)
