We have a family package, 3 cell phones share 1000 minutes, plus verizon to verizon doesn't cost any minutes, 1000 mobile to mobile. In the 3 years we've had cells ( no land lines at all in the house) we've never gone over our minutes. Our cell phone bills are about $150-$200 per month. Not cause of calls, but because 2 out of 3 of us go over our text messaging limit. That gets to be real expensive!

lol i hope that doesn't happen to me. the FIRST thing my GF said when i told her that i got a cell phone was "now i can text you in school!" (we go to diff schools) and i was like "omg, here comes the bills!"

the good thing is with pre-paid, theres no way to go over your minutes (or money). once you run out, you cant use it anymore till you go and buy more minutes. this saves me from accidentally using up too many minutes, and getting charged $100's of dolars eventually, and then getting a bad credit report, and then being denied a cell phone from any service (this happened to my sister, she couldn't pay the bill, it started to double and triple over time, she is not in debt $1000+ with my parents for crap like this)

thats why they invented mobile to mobile....For $50 a month I get 450 minutes plus unlimited nights, weekends, and mobile to mobile (minutes and text messages). That's also free roaming and long distance. I never go over my minutes or text messages and I send 150 to 200 text messages and spend 3 or 4 hours on the phone PER DAY. (my girl friend lives out of state...)

prepaid is a great idea, though with our 2 year contract we really can't do that. I'm alloted 2000 messages a month, that's IM's from AIM, MSN, texts, v-texts (email) it's surprising how it all adds up. Each month I can still be over by 1000 but I have the highest TM plan they offer!

$50 a month is all the cash i have right now, not cool. There IS A mobile2mobile PRE-PAID plan (perfect for me right!?!!??!) AND it's only $.10 a minute.

BUT

there is a $1.00 "access charge" everyday you use your phone (be it calling or texting) so, if i jsut made 1 call in a day, that $1.10 for that call. If you make 1 call/text every day of the month and thast it, thast an automatic $30 bill + w/e it costs per call (gay). I could just go with the regular pre-paid and no free mobile2mobile and only pay $.5 a text message.

that figures to 600 text messages a month for the same price as 30 "free" mobile2mobile messages
or 120 actual calls for the price of 30 "free" mobile2mobile calls
its jsut not worth it with pre-paid.

if i used the phone ALOT though it's be worth it...i jsut cant see myself using more than ~$15 a month, so paying a monthly fee would jsut be waste of cash :/

We get free nights and weekends also. I don't really do the roaming calls bit. Anyone that's out of state, usually we do the email bit. It's very rare I call anyone out of the state, but if I did, I would do it at night so it's free. There's only one person that I talk to almost everyday that lives out of state, but he calls me so no charge to me.
My cell phone battery probably lasts about 6-8 hours (talking straight, without hanging up) but on an average day of phone calls and texting, I can go 3 or 4 days without having to put the phone on the charger.

So, what do you look for in a phone?
Not a brick, can ring people/recieve calls and sms, dont really need a phone for much more then that.
