Windows comes preloaded with some version of Directx, and it's next to impossible to remove or downgrade it. Not knowing your version, I'd suggest just trying to reload the newest version, or 8.1(seems to be one of the more stable vesrions) Of course, if you have newer versions installed, it'll do no good.
I assume your error is due to some input device. So something else to try is maybe reload some of your input drivers. Do you use a joystick or anything like that? You also don't provice any info. When do you get this error? Every game you run?

Dont know about reinstalling or removing... has that bit during install saying cant be undone.
Anyhow, if you go to START\RUN then type in dxdiag it will load the Direct X setup window which shows you your version. Also under the "Help" tab there is a "trouble shooting" option..... that may help you.

it'll be nice if you provide more in depth details of your problem.. and if it helps, try updating to version 9
there are several attempts at uninstallers and ways to remove directx.. but they all dont reallly work cuz the de-installation path is so deeply embedded in windows the the only possible way is to do a reformat..
