Hi,
Can anyone confirm wether or not these parts will actually work together and if they are worth spending £600 pounds on for my first build. mobo http://www.microdirect.co.uk/product...ProductID=8784 graphics http://www.microdirect.co.uk/product...roductID=10179 ram http://www.microdirect.co.uk/product...ProductID=7117 case http://www.microdirect.co.uk/product...ProductID=9555 psu http://www.microdirect.co.uk/product...8481&GroupID=9 cpu http://www.microdirect.co.uk/product...roductID=10518 hard drive http://www.microdirect.co.uk/product...ProductID=9507 optical drive http://www.microdirect.co.uk/product...ProductID=8604 fan (do i need an extra fan?) http://www.microdirect.co.uk/product...ProductID=8016 sound card http://www.microdirect.co.uk/product...ProductID=8171 I was gonna buy a custom made PC from ebay but I am leaning towards building my own for gaming among other things, any help would be great. Thanks Mike

Seems great.... really nice. I like your mobo you chose with your graphics. What games you gonna play? Maybe get a little bit better sound card if your playing like counter strike or something. Seems like its ready for build.
I would get that CPU fan, its nice, and helps alot. |

- I would suggest avoiding ECS for mobos since they have a specialty in dealing with budget boards.
- The RAM is incompatible with the rest of the system, since you're getting an AMD box, you'll be dealing with DDR memory - The specs on the PSU are not listed which makes me wary. Have a look at PSU101 to see what to look for - Nothing special about Samsung optical drives - You dont need that fan. Quote:

does swapping these with the above make things any better?
mobo http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...92&GroupID=304 ram http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...86&GroupID=465 psu http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...91&GroupID=956 BTW, thanks for your help in this thread and the ebay one praetor, buying parts or custom built computers is a daunting task for someone like me with little knowledge Mike

Changing the mobo changes a lot
i would suggest you look into MSI and DFI as makes for motherboards but the board you've picked there is also very nice. just note however that you are paying a premium for ahving a sli board there (the ASUS on you picked)... if you dont forsee youself running in sli mode then dont bother with the additional expense of the sli board and just get a board based on the nForce4ultra chipset (what is sli?answer). if you want a product reccmendation, id suggest the MSI K8n neo4 platinum or DFI lanparty ut nf4ultra-dthe new RAM you've picked out is very nice and tailored for gaming environments... again do realize it may be overkill dependig on what you're looking to do ![]() according to the manual the CoolerMaster PSU there is packing 12v@19a... which is just above what i would consider absolute bare minimum (18a)... have a look at PSU 101 for some suggestions... there are some decent PSUs you can get for not all that much.

Again, thanks for your time. Im gonna be playing games like hl2, quake 4 (when it comes out) and ut2004. I will probably get the MSI board you reccomended and I will check PSU101 for a suitable PSU.
Thanks Mike

I think Im gonna take your advice and get a X800XL and instead of buying everything this month out of the £600 I have wait until next month and put some more cash towards and get the system I want, that way I wont be looking to upgrade again, or atleast for a while anyways. I think I will look for a better optical drive and even get a cheaper secondary one too. I should be able to find one of the gaming PSU's in PSU101 on a UK site easy enough too. Thanks for your help, I have a much better understanding of thing just from this thread and a few other smilar threads which are currently running.
Cheers Mike

Do realize that ive not claimed that the X800XL/6800Gt will suit you for next gen games but all im saying is that the X800GT/O class card you had in mind will definitely choke and the step up will definitely give you a fighting chance at playing the next gen games at something appreciable to max settings
