Well I wouldn't call it "necessary" but it's totally up to the user. Most people dont buy extended warranties unless they know they may be a little tough on their systems. Just like Cell phones, one would by insurance because they know they might be going to drop it or loose it. One would buy extra fire insurance on their house because they live next to dry brush. Or buy extra insurance on their car if they live in Chinatown because people can't drive there (hey, I'm asian, I can joke about it ) So I'd say it's totally up to you, if you see yourself traveling with it on a daily basis and banging it up or have a bunch of kids/siblings messing with it, I'd get the extra warranty. It's just piece of mind. So really, how much of warranty does it come with? If none, are you buying it from some guy's trunk in a deserted alley?
