Default Computer randomly freezing when online

Alright ya'll...my problem is that (and it seems to only be when online...although I'm not sure you can call Sprint DSL on a military base "online" with a clocked speed of up to a whopping 70 KBPS) my computer randomly freezes. I'm not sure exactly what's up, sometimes it'll freeze two minutes after a reboot from the last freeze, sometimes it doesn't freeze for 12 hours. I haven't experienced the problem while not online (I just shut off the POS modem for a couple days to see if that's the problem...no freezing) Anyways, I'm hoping someone here has had this problem before that way it can be done away with soon.

Specs:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (2.45 GHz) (new Mobo & CPU on the way)
Memory: 2 GB (2x 1024 PC3200)
HDD: (1) 200 GB Seagate SATA II (1) 350 GB Internal Western Digital IDE & (1) 400 GB Western Digital that is now an external
Optical Drives: 16x DVD-Rom; 16x DVD+/-RW
Video Card: Geforce 5600+ FX (only cuz I don't have the new MOBO & CPU combo for my ATI Radeon X850XT)
Sound: Hi-def 7.1 Surround w/ Creative Gigaworks S750 speaker system

Any help is much appreciated

Maybe something inside your computer is overheating. have you tried cleaning out the dust recently? also, if you do any overclocking on your proc. maybe its too unstable.

What motherboard do you have?

not that 50mhz is a big deal or anything, but the Athlon64 3400 runs at 2.40ghz i would suggest you look at two things:
1. that the ±3.3, ±5 and ±12 volt rails are stable (i.e., not fluctuating too much or too far off spec)
2. that your temperatures are <60c.
using something like Motherboard Monitor 5 or SpeedFan you can monitor both of thse.
