I remember I started speaking in full sentences when I was a few years old... I am not sure when I was able to take those full sentences and turn them into written full sentences.. but I think it might have been before the age of 14..

Ok, firstly, I totally agree on SFR's point, and apj101's... Now the question is, combining the two opinions. I don't know about you, but I do like to know about various people's backgrounds here, their hobbies, likes / dislikes and so on. What's the point in having a community where no one knows anything about anyone?

The problem - where do we draw the line on stupidity and sensability (does that make sense?).

I think we need to use our common sense when posting and ask ourselves, "is this thread going to be useful to the community of computerforum?"

Now, I'm not sure whether what I've said above is totally correct, heck, I haven't even read back over it to check grammar, but it's the off topic section - i don't need to be formal...

well.. i do agree with the rest of your post, however i dont think anyone has drawn a line on stupidity/sensability. its more. the not-saying-anything topics are a waste of time and space on this site.

Ok first off I don't want to sound like a jerk or anything. But really what does it matter what we post in the "off topic" section. As long as the things that aren't about computers aren't clogging up the computer section, what does it matter? Yeah most of the threads are really dumb, immature and tasteless but most (not all) of the people who start the threads are active members in the computer section as well. I think that the "off topic" section allows us to blow off steam and shoot the crap with the other members on the forum about "off topic" things. I DON'T agree with the argument threads however. For example: Rap vs. Metal. From the start that was a disaster. But some off the "off topic" sections are rather helpful. This is just my opinion. Thanks.
Opinion noted and I concurr however there is a line that is often breached -- but it will be dealt with swiftly and permanently once certain things fall in place. Being an active member on the computer sections of the forum does not imply being a useful/productive/helpful/mature member (note that this is not a technical observation but one with respect to forum ettiquette and maturity).

I was just thinking about some of our minor members. Granted, there are far worse things that can be seen on the internet away from this forum, but if I as a parent was to see my teenage child on this forum and they are looking at something that I didnt want them too, then would this site be at fault? I could even go as far as saying, "as a computer forum, I thought they was learning about computers. Now, they are seeing something else, maybe I should ban them from even bringing up this site."

Im sorry if I am getting a little off topic, on this off-topic. I just wanted to give my 2 cents.

i hear what your saying... i still think that an admin/mod should review a thread before its posted here. But i've also heard that mods have better things to do then to review them all say (go figure ), so if there was a way to say... see all the threads started with members under 500 or something.

Hmmm I see what you mean but how does a thread then qualify as valid without a certain level of "sensability"? Becuase that's what we're talking about, right? - whether or not a thread is suitable for the Off Topic section.

I don't really agree on that... The Off Topic section is a place where one has freedom to talk about things not relevant in the other categories.
