Default WHAT HAPPENED to this one time respectable COMPUTER FORUM?

I think the off topic forum has gone too far.

There are more than a few MUSIC/SEX/RESTAURANT/CRAP FORUMS on the internet... How about if you want to talk about music, sex, drugs, etc.. go to one of those forums.. and if you want to talk about Computers you stay on this forum.....

This forum has turn into a Jerry Springer show.. Heavy Metal vs Rap... what is your favorite fatty fast food.... is Trojan a good name for a condom?.... even cleaning a car engine and some poor kid looking for a friend..

WHY THE HELL ARE ALL OF YOU HERE???? C O M P U T E R FORUM... say it again.... C O M P U T E R FORUM... unless you have a computer related QUESTION, or a computer related Answer I advise all of you - who are simply here to create or reply to this crap - to move on.... If you are only an Off Topic poster, and have not contributed to a computer related thread with more than a "lol yer"... I am going to recommend to the admin that you no longer be allowed here.

At one point, a few months ago, this forum was still respectable and a wonderful place to help and look for answers to our computer problems.

The General Chat forum used to have a few odd ball thread.. but nothing to
this degree of insanity.

I left this place in May 2005, I came back September 2005.. and this is what I found.

I am disgusted by the small percent of the members of this forum who condone and contribute to this filth.

I have spent about a week trying to add some decency to the threads... and granted, I added a little bit to the crap of this board, BUT IT HAS TO STOP NOW.

Spammers and hackers and illegal music and software downloader’s have always been unwanted part of this forum... now this Off Topic board is almost as bad.

It is time for ALL OF US to start cleaning up this place.

I see what you mean SFR, but in my personal opinion, i think that some of the threads in the "Off-Topic section" arent that bad, mine was the cleaning the car engine, but i dont see how that causes problems, although the ones like "favorite fast food", "have you had sex yet". ect, ect, have gone way too far. THe reason why i posted that question here was because i come here alot and i would notice a response much quicker, and i also like the people that are here, vs other forums.

So i think we should severly cut it down, and do what we used to do for the Computer parts for sale section, have a mod/admin review it before allowing it to be put up.

what sort of thing would you suggest to go in the "off topic section" then?

and what about Bytemans "Die Ipods Die" thread, too off topic?

Some things i see here are to the exteme, but some of the more civilized one's arn't bad even htough they have nothing to go with computers, just random questions and stuff that they dont want to sign up for another forum just for that ONE question, when many here would anwser it.

Off topic chat is not the problem.. I was a bit to harsh (to make my point).

The problem is what some of you are talking about.. the car engine, the restaurant, the music, the schooling.. that is not the REAL problem.... the problem is the sex thread... and when a member has never one or two posts outside the OFF TOPIC forum....

This is first and foremost a computer forum. I seem to be reading that a bunch of people are bored.. so they create a poll about something... thats not what this place is about. Some of the polls are fun, they are funny.. its nice to see what some of you think...

I just see it escalating... first all the sex threads.. the then music debates.. next it will be all about politics and religion.. and then this forum will turn into a mini war zone (think Im over reacting? .. I don't)...

Some of the threads mentioned had gone too far, were new and had been deleted.
The nonsense posting in an attempt to boost post count has also been addressed, with some members banned because of it.
if you see a thread which is of the nature that SFR just mentioned, my advice is to not waste your time replying to it, because it is usually a short period of time before it is deleted along with your reply. Hence replying to those kind of threads is usually a waste of time.
Having said that, I think off topic chat is an important part of making this a community type atmosphere, and I dont want to see it too heavily censored.

its always a bit of fun for me to see what ppl are talking about in the off topic forum, when i want to take a break from helping ppl in threads. I do agree though that threads about members sex lives need to stop immediately. I see a slipepry slope happening very soon if it is not stopped NOW.
