Hello there,
I am trying to remote a friends computer or vice versa. We got everything setup 1) Enable remote desktop under System >> Remote 2) Enable the port 3389 in my router or his 3) Enable Remote control / Remote Management under the router 4) Found the Internal IP address in the router (use it to connect) 5) Enter the Internal IP found on the router to Remote Desktop Connection. 6) Failed to connect What's the problem here? I have tried to connect his computer and he tried mine, but both doesn't work. Somehow... One day I put a port range 3380 - 3390 in my router and he worked for ONCE... and then later on we tried it doesn't work. (with the same configuration that worked perviously) We both have a Linksys router, just different model. We both have WinXP pro installed on the comp. Anyone have any idea about the setup or anything I can do to make it work? Thanks a lot |

How do use remote desktop connection A few questions: Are you running XP Professional? Are you trying to use remote desktop connection over the internet or over a LAN? Have you enabled remote desktop connection (start, rite click on my computer, click properties, Remote TAB:, check box [allow users to connect remotely to this computer])?

to use the remote desktop, the computer that u are accessing shud compulsorily have a username and a password. i meant an account name and password. if u dont have a password, it wont work. also the comp that ur trying to use shud be logged off.

Yeah what renjith said; a user name and password is compulsorily and has to be entered into Options under the General tab. Also you should have his IP address entered into the computer name box. You can get this by going to Start > Run > CMD > type ipconfig/all and locate the ip address.
