help! windows xp, adding window components...

when i put in my windows xp home disk (with SP2) inside my cd-rom and i load it up. i click on "Install optional Windows components", then i checked off the ones i wanted.
when its trying to install these files, i get the following error:

Setup cannot copy the file hostmib.dll
and it tells me to select the location of it so it can copy it.
I have tried many times, since the file is on the windows XP disk, and also on my computer. It still doesn't work.
also, i have even tried downloading the hostmib.dll file from the internet and tried to locate this one..Still no luck. I'm totally stuck! Please help!
I have lost the windows media player option and volume control option (previous stupid actions of mine )...and i can't get them back

PLEASE HELP

I typed hostmib.dll into google and the first link gave you the ability to download it...

Your post is not clear... Have you actually downloaded it from the internet? It seems like you were not able to find it..which should not be the case. If you have downloaded it and it still does not work.. let us know....

You can also download the windows media player from the internet and try installing it.

I have got windows media player fixed up.. but the volume control is still missing...

i still can't install it. please help.

If you're talking about Windows XP, the volume control is available from the Control Panel under Sounds and Audio Devices; place a check-mark by the Place Volume in Task bar.

tried that.. does not allow me to check-mark it as i don't have the volume control component installed. im having trouble installing it

Johnnyboy0056-ill try doing it in safe mode.. after i try it, how do i get out of safe mode? never went into safe mode (purposedly)

just restart ur comp and it will reboot in regular mode. worst case, it will ask u how u want the comp to boot, and u selece "START WINDOWS NORMALLY"

i found out i was using conexant program for volume. i was like "what is this" so i click on the application.. and it didn't work. said it was missing "sndvol32.exe".so i went on the internet and searched for it. downloaded that application and moved it to my system32 folder. now i have no problems.. Microsoft knows about the problem:
