First off the USB will capture the videos just fine, especially the generation 2 USB. Firewire is just the stardard that most digital video cameras use.

Second, Firewire is the Apple equivalent to USB is a connection medium for multimedia and other devices to computers.

Third, a PCI card would just go in where your sound card and other stuff is, and it allows a non-Firewire computer to then have that capability.

Finally, the video capture devices will work with any RCA signal, and some will even work with the old coaxial format. The compatability depends more on the capture device that you have vs the VCR that you have.
