Hello,
I am using PC Wizard 2005 to monitor the temperature of the CPU in my laptop. When I play games like Madden2006, it shows the CPU as operating at 81degrees celcius. Is this too hot for my CPU to be operating at constantly? Here are the specs of my laptop (probably more info. than you need): Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600 (WinXP Retail) Date 2005-10-09 Time 12:37 --------[ Summary ]----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Computer: Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition OS Service Pack Service Pack 2 DirectX 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c) Computer Name YOUR-5834847611 User Name jc Motherboard: CPU Type AMD Athlon 64, 2200 MHz (11 x 200) 3400+ Motherboard Name VIA K8T800 Motherboard Chipset VIA VT8383/5 Apollo K8T800(M), AMD Hammer System Memory 1024 MB (DDR SDRAM) BIOS Type Phoenix (10/16/04) Communication Port Communications Port (COM1) Communication Port ECP Printer Port (LPT1) Display: Video Adapter ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9700 Series (128 MB) Video Adapter ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9700 Series (128 MB) 3D Accelerator ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 (M10/M11) Multimedia: Audio Adapter VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller Storage: IDE Controller VIA Bus Master IDE Controller IDE Controller Winbond PCI Memory Stick PRO Storage Device Driver IDE Controller Winbond PCI Secure Digital Storage (SD/MMC) Device Driver SCSI/RAID Controller D347PRT SCSI Controller SCSI/RAID Controller SOJU SCSI Controller Disk Drive HTS726060M9AT00 (60 GB, 7200 RPM, Ultra-ATA/100) Optical Drive AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device (Virtual DVD-ROM) Optical Drive Generic DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device Optical Drive TOSHIBA CD/DVDW SD-R6472 (DVD+RW:8x/4x, DVD-RW:8x/4x, DVD-ROM:8x, CD:24x/10x/24x DVD+RW/DVD-RW) SMART Hard Disks Status OK Partitions: C: (NTFS) 57223 MB (7124 MB free) Input: Keyboard Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard Mouse Alps Pointing-device Mouse Logitech USB Cordless Mouse Network: Network Adapter 802.11g MiniPCI Wireless Network Adapter (192.168.1.101) Modem Smart Link 56K Modem Peripherals: Printer \\your-ze8cxvr8tt\hp officejet 4100 series Printer hp officejet 4100 series fax Printer hp officejet 4100 series Printer PDF reDirect v2 USB1 Controller VIA VT83C572 PCI-USB Controller USB1 Controller VIA VT83C572 PCI-USB Controller USB1 Controller VIA VT83C572 PCI-USB Controller USB2 Controller VIA USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller USB Device CMM PC Camera USB Device Logitech USB Cordless Mouse Battery Microsoft AC Adapter Battery Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery |

81 degrees celsius is pretty hot! i dont like my lappy's cpu getting over 60. most times, its around 48. it only gets to 60 if i am encoding a divx or something
you might want to install speedfan or something to monitor your cpu temp constantly. also you can look up specs for your particular cpu and check its operating temp range. i know for my desktop, it can operate up to 90 degrees c, but of course, the hotter it gets, the worse it gets. . .

Well, it runs around 56 degrees celcius all the time, even when I'm doing small things like word documents. I already have the back of my laptop propped-up about 1.5inches.
I tried the Speedfan program before but it showed all the temps at 102 celcius and my CPU activity level at 0.6% Thanks again! |

I was thinking about buying a cooling pad...
I'm doing no overclocking, this laptop has always ran this hot since I bought it (brand new) -- June 2005. I've also left it on for up to 2 days at a time, luckily with no problems SO FAR. But I guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed... |

the max temps for an athlon 64 is about 70-75C, if its at 81C, it may burn out before you get alot of use out of it.
what make is it?
