Default Windows XP SP2

I've recently installed windows XP SP2 with no problems.

What I want to know is where can I find the source-file because I'm planning on reformatting my c-drive and completely reinstalling XP. When I do so I want to have SP2 on CD ready to install manually because I heard it's risky to log-on to the web using XP if it hasn't been updated.

The other question I have is: Can I just install SP2 straight over XP or do I need to install SP1 first?

Thanks in advance.

1. To my knowledge there is no way to DL SP2 as a standalone.
2. You can always slipstream and not have to worry about doing any of the damn updates

I dunno as i dont use SP2 although considering the methodology by which you update to SP2 (windows update), you wont have much of a choice. You can always try updating without SP1 or SP1a and you'll find out if you need them or not. Of course slipstreaming would solve that problem

if you want SP2 on CD, you can order it FREE on http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...s/default.mspx and have it shipped FREE in about a month only!

...or you could just save the files on another computer and get them after the format. i got mine after my dad got it off the CD onto our server, i just took it from him and installed it. he got it in the mail from microsoft i believe...on a couple CD's.

Yes that would be the entire point MS is only allowing Download via WindowsUpdate now. The copy your dad has (unsurprisingly) is the Network Admin version (which i suspect is the same as the CD version)
