I would change out the case's PSU to a Fortron unit (their 530w is EXCELLENT) and the motherboard to Abit AN8 SLI.

I want 2 gigs just so that:
1- I will have more ram than my friend (big rivalry)
2- I won't have to upgrade for a while (ram)
3- I would end up getting it eventually.

but i do understand that 1 would work and be a bit cheaper, but that is one thing i would like to get out of the way off the bat.

Chris Chan I would like to do that but I think I will stick to the 480 because it is 50 W less but also almost $70 less. maybe I will upgrade to that in the future.

I will get that motherboard instead though, thank you

if the RAM won't work or anything else on the pc won't work then please tell me, also what processor would be better for another $50? i'll be gaming so i know it will be AMD but i dont know what one.
well for starters, ditch the sli board... yer just throwing money at something that wont matter all that much anyways. that being said, you can use that RAM with the system... it's not the greatest RAM though

I tihnk I will keep the same motherboard, I've been searching for non-SLI motherboards for an hour now and I can't find one that isn't SLI and has everything else I want or has good reviews. maybe in the future I will use SLI anyway lol...

so with that processor and all the stuff above, is it feasible? (sp?)

(will it work?)

I wouldnt bother with SLI but thats me ... if you're looking for a good nonSLI board:
- DFI Lanparty UT NF4 Ultra-D [130USD]
- MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum [125USD]

Easy there. 3% voltage tolerance is good but nothing spectaular -- powerstream600 and PC P&C 510 will both dominate it: adjustable pots + 1% tolerance just to start with (also, posting reasons adds a lot to credibility )
