hi all anyone help gotta 3 comp on dlink/origo router wireless network installed 9dbi antennas on the comp , the 2 nearest the router are fine , but the other comp farthest away keeps on losing the 192 ip address and reverting to a 169 ip address so i lose internet on the comp , so i have to shut down comp and most of the time it comes back to a 192 ip then me internet works , any suggestions to improve signal and to stop losing ip and internet

how far away is it and are you manually configuring it or running DHCP?

hi can you help if i buy a 10 metre low loss 2.4 ghz antenna cable . would the loss of signal be outweighed by the antenna being nearer , as at the mo the tx rate is around 10 to 20 , signal between 20 to 50 % and the other range what looks like a beacon with my name on it, around 15 to 45

When you loose a connectin it reverts back to the 169 address since the router is not assigning it the 192 address. i think this is more of a problem of signal. Can you reposition the wireless router for a more direct line of sight?

Could it be a power saving issue?

You would connect the the 10m Cat5 cable to one of the ports and then run it to the PC? I have run one that was about 30Feet, which is roughly the same... You should have no problem with loss... The cable would probably be cheaper if you splice it yourself... Just an idea, not too difficult. I found running the Cat5 Cable under the linning of the carpet is ideal for no visibility... hope that helps.

are you saying connect 1 comp to another , or just an extension cable from my network card with a 9dbi stuck on the end of the cable , does coming nearer to the router outway the loss in signal due to length of cable ,catch 22

Ok i think I know what your trying to say here.. I think it is the lack of punctuation which makes your post jumble together. I think your going to try to increase the size of the antenna on the router and/or network card.. Am i right? I personally dont know anything about that.. never done it before. If you did it properly it would seem that you could have a constant connection. What I was suggesting in the previous post was just running a cat5 cable from the router to the far away computer. I used to run them under the edghe of carpet, if you have it.
Let me know.
