Default help me build computer

I was planning to buy a custom modifeied system, but i changed my mind and want to learn to build my first computer. I chose the motherboard for a start, I am planning to build a gaming and a work computer. If you can help me build it, i would be the happiest man alive! thx
I need to know what are the main types of numbers or letters, names i need to know so i can look for that kind of type, I now some memory types, like SDram and DDR ram are two types but i don't know if Dual DDR is the same as DDR. I know that PCI and AGP are video card slots but i don't understand PCI-E, Do i have 3 PCI-E slots?

ASUS A8N-E
(ATX) nForce4 Ultra Skt. 939
Dual DDR, PCI-E 16x, 1PCI-E 4x, 2PCI-E 1x, 3PCI
with Audio, Gb LAN, SATA2.0, RAID

http://www.dangeo.com/proddetail.php?sku=51469

The budget is $1000 max CDN $850 American - can go up maybe $50 us more

I'll try anything just to make it to $1000 for a really good computer, even over clocking- need to learn that too.

For the time being the number of PCIE (specifically PCIEx1 or PCIEx4) slots dont matter much as there arent a whole lot of devices to use them (as long as u have 1 then yer prolly good to go)

well your motherboard has 4 dimm slots and they can run in dual channel mode (Dual DDR), you can only run dual channel if you have two sticks or four sticks of ram. Your motherboard uses DDR ram. PCI-E X16 is for videocards, its faster than agp and the future cards are all gonna use it. PCI isn't really made for videocards, they're made for other things like sound card, modems, extra USB.. etc.

The RAM comes in..'sticks'. Could be 128 Mb per stick or 256, or more. If you want DDR2 you need to buy either 2 identical sticks, or 4, not three!

Incorect, DDR2 is a different type of memory.

Dual channel means you run a multiple of 2 identical sticks, thus theoreticly doubling your bandwidth.
