Default Intel or AMD on a Digital Audio Workstation

I am building a computer to use as DAW to record music. Would AMD or Intel be a better choice for my situation?

Generally in the past, Intel has been known to be the top dog in digital editing.

At this point, my money is on the E-series Athlon64s (that is, Venice/SanDiego/Manchester/Toledo series chips) ... in particular because they have the most support for hardware level optimizations (i.e., they have just as many as Intel + 3DNow and its derivatives) ... any other of the usual advantages apply here as well

I have heard that Intel is better for those kinds of tasks.
