Cd drive won't play

My CD drive has stopped playing Cd's, when i insert a Cd media player doesn't recognise it, but it does play on the DVD drive? Why is this happening?

I does not play at all? or it does not autorun?. If it's not playing at all then its entirely possible that your CD drive has bought the farm. Try cleaning it, you can purchase a cleaning kit at most stores that sell computers and accessories.
