Exclamation Windows XP Pro freezes when installing drivers

Hey.

I recently put together my new rig:

- m/b asus p5gd1 pro
- pci-express ati radeon x550 256mb
- 2gb ddr pc3200
- q-tek 550w power supply
- benq dvd
- samsung dl dvd burner
- hitachi sata hdd 160gb
- pentium4 ht 3.2ghz lga775

well, as expected windows xp installed at lightspeed and all was going well, i installed service pack 2 and the hotfix, but when i tried to install my vga card, the program loaded and then just froze. the computer was totaly no-responsive, ctrl+alt+del didnt work and the mouse stopped working too.

i had to reset it manualy. well, after it rebooted, i tryed installing my sound card, an audigy 2 zs and the same thing happened. all the drivers related to the motherboard installed fine though.

so i got the drivers for the vga card of ati's site and installed them manualy using the device manager and it worked, however, i dont have access to all the functions availible on the vga card without installing the application cd.

i hope someone out there can help me with this, because its a real draw-back.

any suggestions are welcome.

cya
