Default Intels new cpu

I was reading a comp magazine which i cant remember the name which ill edit later. The p4 is gunna be dead in like a year to a year and a half, and its surprising how theyre going. They stated that itll have close to 14 piplines and will be shorter, and clock speeds will be closer to 2 ghz. This sounds to me that they are going the way of amd, and they said that this new proc will be 5x as fast as the p4. When i get the mag out of my car ill edit some more info, and if this is a repost im sorry.

So the mag is maximumpc and is the november 2005 issue, the article is on pg 10 and is titled goodbye pentium 4. Some other pieces i couldn't remember was that the new proc will consume less power, have 1 or 2+ cores, and expected to have the same fsb as the p4.They also say that netburst is dead and the new proc will prolly be released in late 2006, so its kinda right around the corner. I wonder if this will be called the pentium 5. Also codename for the proc is conroe.

peace -mike

no, totally wrong. The P6 (intel's mobile) achetecture is totally different the what conroe will be. And conroe is aimed at the desktop market. PS, Yonah is intel's new mobile core.

That is a wide brush to paint.

They also say that netburst is dead
spiralling heat issues are proabably the main demise of netburst. Its insanly long pipeline allows for huge clock speeds, but it seems clock speeds beyond 4 GHz produce a lot of heat.

The new processor will be slower than the p4, thats the whole point if it. Whether it will perform better remains to be seen

Not sure about that pipeline count, depends on if they are counting the stage front ends or not. I think i better guess would be a 20 stage pipline would be more reasonable
Also note that the P4 northwood had a 20 stage pipeline, intel can hardly be said to be following amd on this one.

One thing is for sure, this core will be substantially different to the P6 (mobile), NetBurst, and EPIC.

i think we had a topic on this already
EDIT: yep we did
Intel Conroe

Yes, that was also a side effect of the manufacturing process (power leakage) not just the pipe length.

Pre-release claims and speculation are rarely accurate. I don't doubt it will perform better than the current P4s but they also said NetBurst would be scalable to something excessively stupid fast (8-10GHz? don't remember specific number)
