How to set up realVNC

I have installed RealVNC on both computers, set up the password.
however, When I put my mouse over RealVNC's icon, it tells me my IP's 192.168.1.2, but that's my internal network adress. same situation for my other computer at work, only shows internal IP.
When i openned VNC viewer, i typed this internal IP, it wont work.
What should I do to connect to the other computer?
