i have a 2 and a half year old alienware computer and i want to bring it up to the current standard by replacing the motherboard (and eventually the GPU). my computer only has an AGP slot and no pci express slots. seeing as me alienware scored 1200 on 3dmark05 it is time to upgrade. my question is can i simply replace my motherboard (by swapping it) and not have any problems? i'm wondering because the computer says it's equipped with hyper-threading and i dont wany to disrupt my computer's functioning.
P.S. my comupter says the prossesor is a pentium 4, what kind of slot setup will I need? |

You wont disrupt anything by replacing it with a motherboard with the correct Socket. You'll need to provide more info though if you want more helpful advice.

Just make sure that your new motherboard supports a Pentium 4 with hyper threding. And i would guess that your system is a socket 478, not positive though.
And most likely you would need to re-install windows on your computer, so make sure you back up all your documents.

Chances would be that you would need to install windows. I would recommend doing so.
