Default home made TIVO

I have an older K6 box (500 MHz) that I don't really don't know what i'm going to do with it. I've been reading that Windows Media center will allow you to set up your desktop as a DVR.

My ultimate goal is to have a huge (or several huge) drives on it to house my music and serve as a DVR and TIVO box. I assume this is more memory hungry then processor intensive, so would a 500 MHz processor have any trouble running this type of set up provided I have the drive space and ram to handle it?

The box also currently has windows 2000 on it. Are there other programs that will have the same functionality or am I stuck shelling out several hundred dollars for XP Media center? Can media center be downloaded and added to XP, because I can get enterprise server for free.

Hardware wise....Since I have digital cable, would I just run coax from the digital box to the computer then to the TV or would I have to run svideo from the computer to the TV. Ideally I'd like to not have to interact that much with the windows desktop. Just have the command interface integrated (exactly like commercial DVR) yet be able to switch over through a seperate monitor of by linking the vid card to my TV if need be.
