importing bookmarks to firefox

ok, i think i've asked this here before but do not remember. i had to save all my bookmarks to a microsoft word document awhile back because i didn't know how else to back them up so i wouldn't lose them.
now, i have 44 pages worth of bookmarks in a word document, and the only way i have figured out to get them back into my bookmarks is drag and drop them into the bookmark manager one by one. anyone have any ideas on an easier way i can do this?

Open Firefox and go to: Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks > File > Import > "Tick" the -From File- circle and select the word document.

nope. tried that and it don't seem to do anything really
i wasn't sure what kind of file it has to be in order to import it
