Hi all,
I am a noobie into building PCs, but i was wondering does a AMD Opteron UP 144 San Diego 1.8GHz 1MB Cache (Socket 939) - Retail (CP-141-AM) (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...Athlon_MP.html) fit into a Sapphire ATI Radeon Xpress 200P SKT939 mATX w/LAN 6Channel Audio USB2.0 SATA (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=90154) , i ask this bcoz i was told that altho it is a 939 socket, it might still not be compatable. the example i was given was pluging a K7 1ghz into a wrong K7 mobo will blow up ?? If not , what sort of north bridge will take it? and wot sort of chip set? pls help me, ty Last edited by Runningkid; 10-23-2005 at 10:06 PM. |

opteron is for severs , i think ... but i thought it would be better than a normal AMD 64 coz it has way more cache.so will it work?? i m trying to build a low buget PC,(i m poor) below 350 pounds. so i've made up a list, but a friend just suggested to use this CPU rather than a 3000+

Athlon 64's are the best for gaming. Opteron may be better at multi-tasking, but im not sure.

Actualy opterons are killer CPU's now that they have been ported over to 939. People over at Xtreme Systems have been getting 3 gigahertz easily on air with them. I say go for it.

no, its not. The motherboard in the link is to a socket 939 athlon 64/FX, not a socket 940 opteron.
