trouble restoring

I got a really bad browser hijacker so i decided to restore. I just popped in the XP cd and it restored while i was logged on to my computer already. I know that to do a destructive restore it has to boot directly from the startup, but my computer wont boot into the cd. It left all me previous files in the hard drive and now i have trouble installing other apps. this is not the first time this happens to me but i would like to know if there is a solution for my computer to boot the disk.

press f2 and go into bios, there you can change the boot order to allow to boot cd first before hd..

well my cd rom is supposed to boot before my hadr drive but it still doesnt.
