Default amd64 v x2 series

hey i was just wondering as im gona buy my new pc would a x2 4200 kill any normal athlon 64 range not the fx series

how much benifit woul you get from a athlon 64 x2 4200 vompared to a athlon 64 4000 singel core

Maybe a lot, maybe not. Do you need the ability to execute 2 threads at the same time or do you just want a gaming boost? If it's the latter go with the single core because a dual core will do next to nothing for you.

i want to use it for gaming video editing multi threding but the 4000 is much cheeper i was wondering would teh x2 be much better for me then

i have an x2 3800, seems to be as quick if not quicker than my friends a64 3500+... i can't really compare any benchmarks because we lack video cards, but i load maps in bf2, for example, a little bit quicker than he does, with similar setups.

p.s. - on the flip side, i do have to disable a core for bf2 so that it stays connected to servers

i simple terms. Games for the most part are single threaded and thus unable to utilise the additional core. And each core in the x2 is clocked less than its single core counterpart

Well, A single core processor will be stronger than a similarly priced dual-core processor, BUT, Dual cores have their strong points. My PC is the best AMD processor, stronger than the best X2
