Default First Post -- Laptop SODIMM PC2700 DDR Memory Question

Ok, everyone. I just bought another laptop last night (from Sam's). It was cheap, and I needed something because Katrina destroyed my computers a few months ago. I've been shopping around, and I want to upgrade the memory on it. Here is what it is:

HP Pavilion zv6203cl
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...name=c00491535
-- Microprocessor: 2.0 GHz AMD Athlon™64 Processor 3200+ with PowerNow!Technology
-- Microprocessor Cache: 512KB L2 Cache
-- Memory: 1024MB 333MHz DDR System Memory (2 Dimm)
-- Memory Max: 2048MB

So, I contacted their online tech support person, and they told me it was SODIMM PC2700 DDR ram. I have also found out that the AMD processor cannot handle DDR2. My big question is what speed/type of ram can I use? I am looking for two 1GB sticks of the fastest ram for it. However, what speeds of RAM (400 MHz, etc.) do you think I can get away with? Thanks

PC2700 is a rating of RAM speed. It will be running at DDR333, or 166 mhz. Try to stick with big names with RAM, because it is something you do NOT want failing.

I have narrowed it down to one of 2 different types, PC2700 or PC3200. I can get the PC3200 at a pretty good price from Newegg, but the laptop be any faster with the PC3200 at 400 MHz than the PC2700 at 333 MHz? Am I just wasting money on the faster memory, when the computer will not be able to handle it?

basically yes, if you get 3200 it might be just a little faster but i doubt you'd notice it.

I went ahead and ordered the 1GB PC2700 from newegg. It was under $109 each with shipping, so I figured I can't go wrong. I won't be doing any major gaming with this machine, so that should be fine. I'll have 2 gigs of ram, so I should be good to go. The PC3200 would have cost $44 more for the pair, and I probably would not have noticed it. So, thanks everyone.
