I'm having a problem with my laptop's modem - it is no longer allowing me to connect to the net.
When I try to connect, I get the 'No dial tone' message. I had a look in the Control Panel --> Phone and Modem Options; under the modem tab, my modem is listed, but in the 'Attached to' column, it says 'Not Present'. When I click on the Dial-Up Properties of my ISP, under the General Tab, it says Connect using: Modem Removed...... And I can't even find it in the Device Manager. When I look at the modem log, the last few entries are something like this: File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\...... The only thing I have done in the last few days was clean my registry using Easy Cleaner. I'm just worried I have deleted something that I shouldn't have. I did a system restore, but it hasn't fixed the problem. I also downloaded the latest driver for the modem, but it hasn't made any difference. Can anyone please help? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your replies.
I tried the "Undo" feature with EasyCleaner, but that didn't make a difference. I've had further problems with my laptop - I went to play a music CD, and I got a message that there was no sound device found, even though I have never had a problem before. So, I decided to back everything up, and restore to factory settings, but the same thing has happened. Still no modem, or sound device detected. I downloaded the drivers from the IBM site, and installed, thinking that would fix it, but nada. I'm at a complete dead end now. How is it possible for the modem and the sound card to be damaged at the same time, when I had no problems with either, up till now? Does it mean they are most likely physically damaged, and that I will probably have to send my laptop off for repairs?

Nope, haven't installed anything new, except for EasyCleaner. Haven't dropped the laptop or anything. The only semi-recent thing is that I have moved to the UK, and have been using the laptop here for the last 6 weeks - it was originally bought and used in Australia. However the voltage of the UK and Australia are the same. The only other newish thing, is that since I moved here, I have been using one of those laptop cooler fan things, that plugs into the USB.
Apart from that, I haven't done anything different.
