Default How do you Like Vista?

I am sure I will get Vista the day it comes out, but did you guys hear anything about it? I already have Professional and MCE, and I hope it will be worth it. I heard they had a new game thingie that updated your games automatically (which would be nice for someone who has more games installed that can count). I also hear that it comes with DirectX10. What will the new DirectX have?

Im personally not going to jump on the band wagon right away. I am comfortable with xp, and dont want my pc thrown away because I wanted to TRY vista... An OS is made to complete a computer, and for everything to run correctly. Winxp is doing that for me right now... No issues.

MCE is never really a new os, its just built on xp. And as for directx 10

The company did this to make the next API faster, it said, and at the same time will take some burden of the CPU runtime. At the same time we learned that DirectX 10 will have support for Shaders beyond Shaders, model 4.0.

It's coming with Longhorn but we learned that Shader Model 4.0 might come even before Vista

lots of thread on this lately.. but.. there really isn't any point.. the main issue i can see as of now is compatibility issues.. tried beta 1 ans so-call beta 2 and so far, i have not been able to install any programs on it..

i dont know if they will have it fixed for the actual release.. or will new programs just have to be created to be compatible with it.. so for now, that decides the fate of vista on my computer.

the gui and everything is nice, but thats something u can do on xp with the right programs.

The reason you've not been able to install anything in the beta is because Vista has no 16-bit support (at least I believe that to be the problem you're having), and since almost all installers rely on 16-bit processes... In the new Windows you'll have to get an emulator to install programs that rely on a 16-bit installer. I don't like that all games released previous to Vista will be run through a software layer, because in graphic-heavy games gameplay will likely become intolerable. All-in-all I'm disappointed with the new Windows, but I guess I'll just have to suck it up and deal with it, because it may very well become the next XP (or, if everything goes just wrong, the new ME ).

i love windows xp professional, but i don't think i will buy vista because i don't see any significant improvements that appeal to me, so ill just wait till they start fazing out xp and reluctantly upgrade..........unless it turns out to be another windows 2000 kinda thing lol

i was pumped until they cut out WINFS. That was pretty much the only thing making me consider an upgrade. Heck, I still like windows 2000 better then XP. I run it on my server as I can't stand how XP handles permissions. The GUI seriously gets in the way
