Cant install OS on new build

Hi,

I have built a new pc and as far as I know everything is connected okay, I have booted up and all I get after a screen which display my mobo model and manufacturer is a black screen whic lists my details ( memory, HDD size, cpu speed etc, as well as the PCI device listing) its flashing at the bottom of the screen but when i hit enter nothing happens, any ideas?

Im gonna install XP pro and my specs are below

80gb HDD
amd 64 3200
6800 gt card
asus a8n-e mobo
dvd rw +/-
PSU antec 480watt atx12v

also the 2 case fans are not spinning al though the cpu fan works fine, I connected the case fans to the psu cables that said 'fan only'(hehe bet you will never guess how I worked that out). do they only kick in at a certain temp?

sorry for all the questions, its my first build and any help would be great

should my primary/master drive be my hard drive or my optical drive? I have it set up as my hard drive being my primary/master and my optical being my secondary/master

could this be the problem?

The Primary master should be the Hard Drive
DID you set the CD-ROM drive to be the first bootable device in the bios.
