Unhappy Virus Attachk "Adware.GAIN, Dc297.exe"

HI, I scanned my Computer using Norton Anti Virus and realised a virus as follows:
Type: Adware.GAIN
File name: Dc297.exe

The worst thing is that I could not remove the virus. Any bro can help or advice the following:
1. Is the above virus a malicious one?
2. Any free anti-software that I can use?

To elaborate on my problem... The shut down message became Japanese words, how do I change it back to English??

Thanks.
