i know that the abit aa8 third eye is ddr2 compatible, but not ddr compatible. i also know that the asus p5gdi is ddr compatible but, i'm not sure whether its ddr 2 compatible aswell. some sites say it is, some don't. i believe that the asus is on the grantsdale chipset if it helps.

If you have a look at http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/mbindex.htm you'll note that no such board exists and depending on the board you get you may or may not have DDR(2) support

Well then it supports just 184pin DDR
