pc slowing up

my buddies pc is running slower than usual. it started doing this about the same time he started shutting it totally off when not using it. this could affect the pc right?

i dont think shutting it down would be the problem, i have never heard of it.

does your buddy have antispyware and antivirus software on his pc? and does he run regular spyware/virus scans?
