Default need advice

I have recently re-formatted my friends pc but i keep getting pop ups they seem to come from the operating system they are in a grey box does anyone have any ideas what this could be.

what kind of pop-ups do you receive? and what kind of reformatting did you do to the PC?

they are in a grey box i reformatted from xp to xp pro

did u download any spyware programs to try and rid of them?

Do these 'errors' appear once you are on the internet.

Many websites design there pop ups to look like a windows error, check to see if there is the internet explorer frame around the outside.

If so just download a pop up blocker. Mozilla Firefox includes one.

yeh... firefox blocks so many popups on my computer... i dont get get them anymore
