Default Stupid Search assistant in IE

I get the search assistant popping up in my IE favorites about every other time I turn it on. I cannot turn it off, I have to open a new browser. How do I remove this? I have tried looking through the settings, I'm probably just overlooking the selection.

In that pic, click change preferences, then the top option turns it off

I don't think that works... I'll have to wait for it to pop up again, its not doing it at the moment.

That only turns it off for that particular session, not permanently. Funny thing is, I've never ever had that companion on my IE.
