My Windows Media Player won't play .WMV files.

For some reason my Windows Media Player will no longer play .WMV files. I get an error message every time and hae to shut the program down. If I try to view a .WMV file that is embedded in a web page I get an error message and my browser is then automatically closed.

Does anyone know what I could do to remedy this? I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling Windows Media Player and that didn't work for me.

First do you have the Windows media player 9 series installed?
Or do you have the previous version?

If your the previous version you would need

Windows Media Encoder 7.1

I couldn't find it on microsoft website, but i think you can get from limewire.
