Default Problems with wireless router and laptop

My husband has a laptop and uses a wireless router to acccess the internet. It doesn't work all the time. It seems everyday we have to re-start my PC and unplug the modem and router several times before it will work and then sometimes it only works for a little while. The strange thing is that it shows his signal strength is excellent but when trying access the internet through IE it says "This Page cannot be displayed"... he cannot access through AOL either. We were NOT having this problem for the first 6 months or more after installing the wireless router, but now it happens frequently. What can we do? Is there a chance his wireless card is defective? it seems to get very hot.

they do get hot, so that not too much of an issue

what is the make and model of the cards
and the make and model of the router
(there should be stickers on both , probably the bottom of the router)
