Default My PC is shutting down again and again ... Help plz!

Hi people,

I am new in this forum due to the fact that I have a strange PC-problem.

The problem is that my PC just turns off, first the monitor, then the sound and finally just the PC is running on, but I canīt do anything. This happened about 10 times from yesterday evening to now. I donīt know whatīs wrong, I hope you can help me.

Problable reasons could imo be:

-Virus? (If so, which one?)
-Hardware-problem? (temperature is ok and my RAM also)
-Windows XP? (I uninstalled Win2000 yesterday evening and formatted my c-partition and then installed WinXP, could this be the reason?)

Please please help me, I donīt know how to handle and noone of my friends knows a solution.

Thx alot in advance, isildur

do a quick test, boot to safe mode and lets see if the problem still occurs
instructions are here
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...rc=sec_doc_nam

Leave it in safe mode for a while and see if it still shutsdown

Thx I´ll try this. But the problem is, that the shutting-downs are totally incalculably. Sometimes it happens after 1 minute and sometimes after 30 or 60 minutes.

May it be a problem, that there are still some programs/games running on my d-partition which have been installed under Win2000? (now I have XP running on my PC)...

Red face

It started after Iīve formatted my C partition and installed XP. Well, do you think this could be a problem concerning the graphic or other drivers?
Because, to be honest, I actually donīt know where to download the fitting drivers for my graphic card.

Thx

You can get the Chip drivers at the boards makers site or the chip makers site, You'll have to find out what kinda video you have to get there drivers? Look in control panel, systems, hardware, device manger or go to system tools then system information, find out what you have and download the newest drivers, would update the chip drivers first

So, I`ve donwloaded a 26mb catalyst- and drivers-package at the ATI-site and hope that it´s going to work now. Otherwise I will post here again sooner or later.

Are the voltages stable? How about the temps?
