Default hard drive data size error

ive had a capture card for a while now thats not a problem but after editing the mpeg2 files and burning them off, i try to delete these files and the compuer deletes them but my hard drive space has not changed it is driving me up the wall i constantly have to format my drives to get my space back, there has to a simpler explanation. Im running xp pro 200gb drive 1 gb ram msi 955 platnum board theres nothing wrong with my hardware, it also happens on my other machine????

I had the same problem but ended up getting another drive cause I was almost out of space anyways, I don't know if maybe the amount of space remaining has something to do with it, but if it's low then maybe that could be the problem
