well i just heard the newest cpu's are a differnet socket, so its up to u really.
BTW: what are u doing with ur old computer?

i dont really know yet. im keepin the monitor but i might give it to my sister or i might sell it. so my solution is 2 buy like a X2 4200+ or something like that then to buy a newer mobo and cpu when they become available.

thats seems like a good plan. then if it turns out you dont like the new CPU's or that they are too expensive you would still have a great computer.

yea never thought about like that, thats very true. so ive got my processor and mobo down but is there anything else i can do, i dont really have much of a budget so i want to make sure i have top of the line.

1. Generally speaking, "if you have to ask, then you're not going to notice a performance difference"
2. As for gaming, AMD and AMD-gaming in general is not often cache-bound so a 3700 isnt even neccesary. The extra half-meg of cache will result in a performance delta you'll damn near never experience

1. Thats plain silly. I would sincerely like to see an average K8 chip overclock to the point of being able to seriously threaten a comparable K9.....

2. Good RAM as mentioned as well (not to say what you've picked isnt good -- just that it doesnt meet the bar set by everything else)
3. Since you dont have a budget, SCSI drives

well thank u for all the feedback. and im not paying for it. i just did really well in school so its a reward. so praetor u have given me a lot of info so wat could u reccomend. for future high end gaming.

Whats the budget? You need to nail it down to a number cuz if you dont ill start racking up local RAID5 SCSI boxes with 8TB auxillary NAS...

well as i mentioned before, there really is no budget. just nothing ridiculous. but a number i guess wuld be like 6k-7k. around there. if u give me suggestions i could tell u if that is reasonable or not.

OMFG!!! 6-7K dude!! That's huge! If you sure you're gonna get a PC with that money, it'll be a good one. 2x 7800GTXs 512 MB surely fit in with a X2 4800+ and 2 gigs of uber-low latency ram coupled to a Vapochill cooling setup. Wow.
