Am I reading this correct - that you print up to 100,000 sheets in a matter of days once a year? Like for an annual report or something? If I read this correctly, the 4345's print speed is unmatched. 45 ppm is blindingly fast, and I personally think it would work in replacement of your 4000s. Are you trying to consolidate your printers? If so, we might be interested in buying the 4000s back from you if you do get another/more printer(s).
I know I haven't provided you with a whole lot of in depth answers, but I am not the IPG specialist for our company (Curtis). When he gets back to the office tomorrow, I will get with him and figure out a couple of solutions. In the mean time, any background info on what you are wanting to do with the printer(s) would be helpful. Curt is not one of those cut-throat salespeople who would tell you anything to make the sale. He will honestly propose to you what he would genuinely do in your situation.
Well we're printing books, textbooks to be precise. It's far cheaper to do virtually everything in-house rather than send it out. As for speed I'm not horribly concerned about that, worst case, start it another day ... but I'm more concerned about raw endurance.... the printers are going to be going 24x7 nonstop until they finish ... ok maybe a 15 minute break every 6 hours. So far the 4000s are holding up decently well but it looks like its getting close the time to upgrade.

The second paramater that I'm looking for is to ensure that 20 and 24lb paper doesnt curl too much .. punching out 45ppm is nice until you realize that after a thousand pages or so all the sheets come out curled due to the heat (yes that's why you turn them off to let them cool or you run them in superchilled AC room however this isnt always a possibility ... which is why it's nice to have a quad of printers ... you have rotating breaks)

As of yet, dont stress too much, the printing cycle will come around in august (for the new term starting in september). As for cut-throat, I'm not concerned ... I've no problem saying no

The thought of buying back my 4000s is tempting however but again, not too concerned until we hit the summer (the book hasnt even been revised yet heh)
