Default Can't see DVD drive

When i go to my computer, my DVD drive is not there anymore, it happened when i tried reinstalling windows xp pro >.<, im pretty sure that it still works because i can boot from CD.

When i check device manager, there was meant to be this DVD/CDROM drives, but there isn't also...
Help please

Is the drive enabled in the Device Manager? If not, go to the device manger, click on the properties of the drive, and enable it.

The dvd -rw isn't shown on the device manager.

I had exactly he same problem, after a few week I noticed that the ata connection thingy connected to the DVD had come off the mother board

hrms... mine seem to be connected fine...
maybe i should try swarp the DVD drive on old comp to new one...

then you might have connected the 'jumpers' behind the drivers incorrectly...

the jumpers are set on slave, originally it was on slave and it worked..then i changed it to cable select but it still doens't seem to detect it.

But comp is totally screwd up, see this thread

if any of you have any idea on how to fix it, please help!
