Default Probably easy to do...

My computer is 4 months old and it is full of junk I dont want. I want to start all over and delete EVERYTHING. I believe its called wiping the hard disk. How do I go about doing this? (step by step). After all is gone I want to reinstall windows xp.

make sure you have the windows cd that came with your computer first of all. this is very important!! before you do anything.

when you boot up your computer, you want to press f8 and boot into dos mode. once you are at the dos prompt, type format C: this will format your hardrive and completely erase it.

once the format is complete, reboot and put in the window xp cd. when it boots, go into the BIOS and have the computer boot from the cd, then just follow the instructions.

hope this helps.

Depending the type of pc you have , you may have a recovery partition instead of getting an xp cd. For instance some HP machines have a recovery partition you can recover / do a complete wipe from + they also have a program that you can run once to create a " disk set ". If you need an xp cd
try pricegrabber.com...you can get a real xp prof cd for as low as $60 - $70 .
They are OEM so all you get is the cd and the coa. Some of the vendors have in the past sold pirated versions...I think they are not there now , so read the posted reviews for each vendor...try to pay with a credit card or pay pal just in case...bet you did not know that if you buy anything with a credit card and the deal goes down...you do not get the merchandise. it is wrong , broken..and the company you bought it from will not answer your emails or phone...call your credit card company you payed for the stuff and tell them it is a disputed purchase...they will take care of, also paypal does the same.
