Hi, i was thinking of putting up a server with my computer. The motherboard model is (intel) p61440 EX (excellent), the processor is an P2, 128mb of ram, 235W power supply, an 4 gb (i think) ide harddrive and some soundcard. Now im thinking of removing the soundcard, CD drive and floppy drive and inserting an SATA pci card to it (in order to be able to use big SATA disks). But will this work? Can the motherboard take bigger disks if i just add a SATA pci card?
Now i know that the PSU might not be able to handle the harddrives but i can just get a new PSU then. But the mobo, can the mobo handle it if i just add an pci SATA card? The mobos pretty old, i think its older than 1999. |

Hard drive controller cards can handle large drives even if the motherboard can't. The only limit may be your OS.

only 1 way to find out for sure
![]() If you're going to have a lot of disks I'd go out and find a 300-350W PSU but with a P2 and no power hungry graphics card you shouldb't need that much.
