Default sound problems..is it the computer (sound card) or speakers

everytime i try increase the volume on my speaker...the sound either comes out from the left OR the right..and if ii want to make it come out from both speakers..i have to increase the volume on my speaker very slowly until i get to the "point" where sounds come out from both speakers?

im a noob...is it the computer or the spearkers?..everythings plugged in right

thanks

if you're adjusting the sound levels from the software it sounds like you're actually adjusting the balance settings. however, if you are in fact using the volume control dial you may have faulty volume control on your speaker, especially if there is a lot of crackling while moving the dial.
