In MY lowly opinion, yes, it'd be less hassle to reinstall. Formatting clears up everything, so there wouldn't be any old files to overwrite.

You'd be starting from scratch. You'd lose play hours accumulated so far, but with the experience you already have playing them, it wouldn't take you all that much time to get back to where you were.
