Default Net / MSN messenger??

Hi,
I have been having a problem with Net messenger 4.7 and MSN messenger 7.5 logging each other out!
I have tried to uninstall (add/remove) the Net 1, but it does not seem to go!!
I assumed that when I down loaded the MSN 7.5 version it would delete the 4.7 version??

Any help!!

Cheers.

You are talking about two different versions of messenger here. The v 4.7 I guess is your windows messenger, installing msn messenger does not delete it. Here you can find instructions how to remove windows messenger from your system: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_messenger_remove.htm

do you know of a way to get rid of it?
Not sure what you mean about stable version?

Thanks.

You could try the link that tess gave you or alternatively you could try this...
Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs>Add/Remove Windows Componenets>tick the 'windows messenger' >Next (follow the instructions)

Windows meseenger is the standard (msn) messenger that comes with the Operating System. You can not sign in using both with same email (hotmail) account, one must cancell out. This does not update (i think) so you have to download msn messenger (latest version-stable version).

This will only remove shortcut from the start menu, not messenger.

What you can also do is not associate your .net account with your windows account, and make sure that windows messenger doesnt have your password saved. This way it wont be able to log into windows messenger.

OK, just to make sure I understand whats going on!!
The NET version 4.7 is what comes with XP.
The MSN version 7.5 is what I have downloaded.

Which one is what you call the 'windows version'?

So, If I follow the link Tess sent me , it will uninstall it ( the 4.7 Net version).

Or do I go with what Geoff says??

Is there any benefit in keeping 4.7 Net as well the 7.5 MSN?

Thanks.
Neil

It's Windows messenger 4.7 and MSN Messenger 7.5

There is no real need to keep Microsoft Messenger (4.7) since MSN messenger has many more capabilities and looks nicer.

You can do what Tess said, and if it doesnt work try what i said.
