Default xeon vs amd

hey i was wondering should i get this http://configure.euro.dell.com/dells...dge_1420sc_ide
its a xeon comp ill install it with a 7800 gt or this system

amd 64 3700 san d
a8n sli delux
1 gig twin x ram
2 sata 2 spin point drives 240gig x2
geforce 6800 gs

with the xeon i could install a second cpu and get a 6800 what ya think it will be used for all sort of stuff video editing playing games everything realy

do you actually need dual core? You know processor speed isn't additive....Most games would only use the main processor, so you'd be wasting a lot of money to have teh Xeon name. Video Editing would be improved, as long as your software is sophistcated enough to handle dual cores.


If you have your heart set on dual core, go for an Opteron over a xeon. They are much more robust and work amazing as a stand alone chip.

the opteron is a server chip. Competition to the new Itanium

the Opteron or the xenon?

Unless you are doing some serious editing and rendering, just about any chip near 3 GHz with a few gig's of ram and a SATA or SCSII HD will be just fine.

In fact I doubt you'd ever stress the chip enough to notice a difference between them.

but it sounds like you are intent on the xenon and looking for someone to agree with you. So go for it. It's your money
